Today, still under Butchart ownership there are over one million plants in 700 varieties planted throughout the estate to ensure continuous blooms from March through October. Highlights include favorites like the original Sunken Garden along with the Rose Garden which replaced the family vegetable patch. The symmetrical Italian Garden is where the Butchart?s tennis court used to be a Japanese Garden on the sea side of their home is complete with a couple of cranes to bring visitors good luck.
There are hundreds of species of trees, flowers and bushes. While the daytime is for details an evening tour is also a good idea since concealed and indirect lighting illuminates the gardens casting a fairyland glow on the scene. The magnificent Ross Fountain is also a popular spot by day and night.
